Women As Moral Agents
by Rabbi Lynnda Targan

There are many virtuous women in the Hebrew Bible—
women, like Sarah, Hannah, Miriam, Avigail, Devorah and Esther,
who behave as “moral agents,” interceding for good. Some of their behavior is so extraordinary and courageous, that they literally
rescue the Jewish people from destruction, move the destiny of the Jewish people forward, and even change the course of human history.
Yet their “morality” is often seen as ambiguous. Learn more about
these women and others as we explore their stories through
the lens of the Tanach, Talmud and Midrash.
